MSN.com has just posted a list of “14 Houses to Haunt You on Halloween,” and Hollywood Gothique is splashed all over it – kinda, sorta. Actually, author Tricia Romano quotes us about several Halloween Haunts in Los Angeles that made the list:
The Blumhouse of Horrors comes in at #8. The MSN article links to our [...]
Well, what do you know – it seems there are a few celebrities left in Los Angeles after all. So far this season, the only celebrity sightings we posted were from the Orlando Flordia version of Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights. Now at last we have some celebrity photographs from Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios [...]
The Queen Mary’s annual Halloween event sails into Long Beach. Can it capsize the competition?
When the Queen Mary rechristened its October attraction two years ago, the new Dark Harbor was intended to generate a titanic tidal wave of terror that would eventually rock the boats of rival theme park events, the Knotts Berry Farm Halloween [...]

Photographs from the 2012 opening of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, which was preceded by the annual Eyegore Awards show. Hollywood Gothique skipped the Eyegores this year, much to our regret; it would have been great to see shock-rocker Alice Cooper hand an award to writer-director Guillermo Del Toro, whose 2001 effort The [...]
Last week, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood offered a preview of the ghouls and ghosts that will be plaguing fright fans in Los Angeles when the theme park launches its annual haunted attraction on September 21. Halloween Horror Nights 2012 features new mazes based on THE WALKING DEAD, SILENT HILL, LA LLARONA, THE [...]
The miraculous mirrored attraction opens its gates in Woodland Hills once more, on October 31, 2012, from 6:00pm to midnight. The Forest of Mirrors features a cemetery that seems endlessly extended thanks to a clever illusion: the forking pathways lead to arches, but the arches actually contain mirrors carefully placed so that you do not see your own reflection until you are almost ready to step through the looking glass.
The Queen Mary Dark Harbor returns for 2012. This year, the annual Halloween attraction exploits the venerable Queen Mary’s own haunted history, offering a frightful new maze and five new characters based on allegedly documented events. The new maze is Deadrise, in which the captain and the crew of a sunken WWII escort ship emerge from a watery grave to menace the living.

The final installment of our 2011 Halloween Yard Haunt Odyssey takes us to a pair of old favorites, both restless and eternal, and also ventures into previously uncharted realms of mishaps and darkness. The wide spectrum of approaches – from shivers to shocks, from simple to sophisticated – is a remarkable testament to the impressive variety [...]

The Ghost Tour at Stathearn Park brings to life the history of Simi Valley, told by dead souls from the past. The experience is not intended to be frightening, but it does hit the right mood for Halloween. People interested in history and/or in enjoying Halloween without being assaulted by costumed maniacs, will find this event to be a pleasant and educational diversion.
Dates: October 7-9, 14-16, 21-23, and 28-31
Six October seasons have passed since last we visited the Six Flags Magic Mountain Fright Fest, in the eldritch year of 2005 (review here). That is vast eons of time in the competitive netherworld of Halloween haunted houses and hayrides, and Six Flags has expanded its Fright Fest with more mazes, scare zones, and shows than ever before; we found this year’s event to be much the same as before in terms of its overall impact, but it is bigger and better than before.
Dates: October 7-9, 14-16, 20-23, 27-31
Does Dark Harbor 2011 boldly voyage into darkly haunted seas never charted before? Not quite: much is the same as last year, the old barnacles scraped away and replaced with fresh paint, the cabins aired out and redecorated, the crew primed and ready for another cruise into terror. In fact, the best way to describe this year’s Queen Mary Dark Harbor is to switch metaphors from the bounding main to music: Dark Harbor 2011 is like a remastered CD – basically the same music, with perhaps one or two bonus tracks, but with improved clarity of sound that brings out details you might have missed before, making the result seem new.
