October Shadows IV, this year’s edition of the annual “Celebration of Halloween in Art,” features contributions from dozens of artists, including many with Hollywood experience: makeup man Rick Baker (THE WOLFMAN), production designer William Stout (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), and special effects artist Stephen Chiodo (KILLER KOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE).

David Del Valle takes you on a guided tour of this exhibition of posters, stills, and lobby cards from films produced and directed by Roger Corman, starring Vincent Price, and based on the tales and poems of Edgar Allan Poe. Fans of the Corman-Price-Poe films should get a kick out of the visuals and commentary, and non-fans will get a glimpse at what makes these films interesting.This is the fourth in a series of videos I shot at drkrm, a gallery in Los Angeles. The previous exhibitions were Haunted Hacienda (Mexican horror movies), Beefcake Babylon (gladiators and sword-&-sorcery), and Performance (director Nicolas Roeg’s movies starring Mick Jagger and David Bowie).

The Nevermore exhibit took place back in October of 2006; unfortunately, I was busy covering the Screamfest festival in Hollywood at that time, so I was not able to get the video edited and posted while the exhibition was still running. Since then it’s sat on limbo, but there is now talk of a similar gallery showing in San Francisco, and David has a book coming out in the U.K. on the subject of the Poe films, so the timing seems right again to post this now.

October Shadows returns! Presented by Creature Features, this year’s annual celebration of Halloween art will be held at the Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California beginning October 10th. Every Halloween season, October Shadows showcases the work of artists from the fields of fine art, illustration, comics, film, TV and animation- all to celebrate the spirit spirit of All Hallow’s Eve.

This exhibition of the Deutsches Filmmuseum, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, presented in partnership with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, offers stills, posters and other artwork from Japanese animated films and television shows – everything from POKEMON  to DRAGONBALL Z, from SAILOR MOON to Katsuhiro Otomo’s groundbreaking 1988 science-fiction feature AKIRA.
