After going on hiatus for 2011, The Heritage Haunt returns for Halloween 2012, with a smaller attraction centered around the Newhall Ranch House – an allegedly real-life haunted location that served as the focus of the Heritage Haunt until behind-the-scenes problems forced a change in 2010, eventually leading to the haunt’s closure for a year. The reports of Heritage Haunt’s death have been greatly exaggerated. After a disappointing Halloween 2010, the rumor was that this engaging Halloween attraction would not return, because of behind-the-scenes difficulties over permits and permissions (which put the kibosh on the event’s highlight, the wonderfully atmospheric haunted Newhall Ranch House). For 2011, many of the crew from last year have moved on to a new Halloween haunt. However, Heritage Haunt has not gone quietly to its eternal slumber; instead, it returns from the grave – on a smaller scale, closer to its previous incarnations – with the Newhall Ranch House once again the creepy centerpiece.

Heritage Haunt does not have a walk-through haunted house this Halloween, but it does offer a Hayride of Nightmares. Capturing the ride on video is a bit tricky, because the effectiveness of the actual experience depends on the terrain hiding the lurking ghouls until they spring out of nowhere. For Halloween 2010, Heritage Haunt continues to expand its number of attractions. As sometimes happens, the increased activities leads to a dilution of the original appeal – in this case, the severe truncation of the event’s signature haunted house. Fortunately, there are compensations, most notably in the form of a lengthy Hayride of Nightmares, which offers more than enough Halloween horror to satisfy thrill-seeking trick-or-treaters.

A vast variety of Halloween events are opening in Los Angeles on the weekend of Friday, October 5, 2010, and if you don’t start now you are likely to miss much of hauntingly horrible fun. Hence, we have gathered together in one convenient place, a list of exciting attractions now available to you, including Reign of Terror, Heritage Haunt, Nightmare at Scareview Farms, 13 Nights of Terror, Haunted Midnights, the 4th Annual Haunted Hollywood Scavenger Hunt, and many more!
