2003 NEWS: Although the Fright Gallery did not put on a show during 2006 or 2007, we recently received confirmation that they will return for 2008. The new show is titled “Dead of the Class.”
DATES: October 30, 31 & November 1
SHOWTIMES: 7:15, 7:45pm, 8:15pm, 8:45pm, 9:15pm, 9:45pm
ADMISSION & PARKING: Free (donations accepted)
HISTORY: The Fright Gallery describes itself as a “terrifyingly hilarious experience in suburban lawn art.” The yard haunt began back in 1980 as “The Horror House”; it has gone through several expansions and permutations since then, morphing into an annual Halloween-themed musical-comedy production, with titles like “Shipwreck Shores,” “Boney Island,” “Scream Acres,” and the “Pumpkin Patch.” In 2003 they even tried their hand at a professional walk-through maze called “Experiment in Terror,” which was quite good (basically, a scripted tour of a haunted house, with each room featuring a different mechanical special effect, such as a semi-transparent ghost that appeared from a bathtub and “slimed” the audience).
FEATURES: The Fright Gallery put on a demented –and amazingly elaborate — Broadway-style musical in front of a haunted house facade, complete with stage lighting and moving set pieces.
MORE INFO: The show takes place on the front lawn of a house in a residential area, which can become quite congested on busy nights. The Fright Gallery recommended parking a block away and walking over.
