Description: ArcLight Cinemas presents a Halloween screening of Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, about a family who take on a job as caretakers at a hotel closed for the winter season – only to find themselves trapped inside with the permanent residents – the souls of those who have died there. The film was widely reviled during its initial release (when it was considered too tame, compared to King’s effectively shocking blood-and-thunder novel), but the years have been kind to Kubrick’s film, bringing out subtle shivers and disturbing implications that might have been overwhelmed by a more brutal approach.
