Description: The American Cinematheque presents a double bill of kaiju eiga (monster movies) from Japan’s Toho Studios. MOTHRA (1962) is the film that forever transformed the Japanese genre from serious science fiction (a la 1954’s GODZILLA) to family-friendly fantasy. GODZILLA, MOTHRA & KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTER ALL OUT ATTACK is a wonderful variation on the usual monster battle scenario, with the familiar monsters re-imagined by director Shusuke Kaneko – it may be the best Godzilla film since the original.
