NOSFERATU screens at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Halloween Night

Running out of ways to celebrate the October season? Or are you simply looking for a different kind of way to enjoy Halloween in Los Angeles? Well, you’re in luck! Here are a handful of last-minute additions to our monthly Calendar of Events:

Title: Follow Your Screams
Location: Secret Rose Theatre, 11246, Magnolia Blvd, North Hollywood

Description: “Ten People. One Room. Ten SCREAMS!” FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS, a play currently running in North Hollywood, offers this “Tricks and Treats” variation for the 8pm performance on Halloween night. Tickets include the after-show party. Come in costume and get free treats!
Date: Saturday, October 31 at a5 8pm

Title: Halloween Spook-tacular at Universal City Walk
Location: Universal City Walk, Universal City (Los Angeles), CA

Description: Universal City Walk (the phony mainstreet-type shopping center near the Universal Studios Theme Park) presents its annual free Halloween Spook-tacular, which offers free fun for families with kids, including a costume contest.
Date: Saturday, October 31 at, 4-8pm

Title: Nosferatu
Location: Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles

Description: The Los Angeles Philharmonic presents this screening of the 1922 silent film version of DRACULA, with live organ accompaniment by Clark Wilson. Frankly, Hollywood Gothique is tired of this over-rated classic, but the opportunity to hear a performance by a live organist at the Disney Hall sounds like a good reason to give the film another chance.

Title: Sally Spectre, The Musical
Location: Theatre West, 3335 Cahuenga Blvd West, Los Angeles, CA 90068

Description: Billed as a “children’s horror story for adults,” this musical is about the “ghost of a little girl who sings and dancers her way through a nightmare-laced purgatory,” according to Pat Tyalor of The Tolucan Times.Rebecca Lane is Sally, who looks cute despite the ax buried in her head.
End Date: Through November 29, 2009

If your taste runs toward parties, you can check these out on Halloween night:

  • The 4th Annual Art of Elysium Halloween Ball  at 930 Hilgard Avenue. Admission is $20 in advance, $30 at the door
  • Beacher’s Madhouse Costume Ball at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, 7000 Hollywood Boulevard. $60.
  • Fangbanger’s Ball  at El Bar, 3256 Cahuenga Boulevard – inspired by HBO’s TRUE BLOOD.
  • Halloween Wine Tasting at City Sip, 2150 W. Sunset Boulevard. $23 for five pairings of wine and Halloween treats.
  • KCRW Masquerade at park Plaza Hotel, 607 S. Park View Street. With live music. $85 at the door.
  • LACMA MUSE 5th Annual Costume Ball at 6067 Wilshire Boulevard. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art invites you to dine and dance in costumes inspired by art.  $25-30 for LACMA members, $50 for non-members.
