Italian Grindhouse Treasures at Egyptian Theatre

Starting on Thursday, July 9, the American Cinematheque presents this week-long series of cult/exploitation films from Italy, including several horror and fantasy titles from the likes of Dario Argento and Mario Bava.

Below is a list of the genre titles of interest to Hollywood Gothique:

OPERA & CEMETERY MAN – Thursday, July 9 at 7:30pm
Dario Argento’s 1987 giallo-thriller screens on a double bill with protoge Michel Soavi’s over-rated 1994 zombie opus.

PARANOIA & A QUIET PLACE TO KILL (both starring Carroll Baker) – Friday, July 10 at 7:30pm
Two giallo thrillers featuring the star of Eliza Kazan’s BABY DOLL.

HERCULES IN THE HAUNTED WORLD & DUEL OF THE TITANS – Saturday, July 11 at 7:30pm
Mario Bava’s colorful take on Greek mythology (starring Reg Park as Hercules) on a double bill with a film version of the story of Romulus (Steve Reeves) and Remus (Gordon Scott).

THE NEXT VICTIM & QUEENS OF EVIL – Wednesday, July 15 at 7:30pm
Another pair of bizarre Italian films, the first a giallo-thriller, the other a “groovy adult fairy tale.”

Also screening will be the Italian Westerns SARTANA and MINNESOTA CLAY and the Italian crime films MACHINE GUN MCCAIN and HIGH CRIME.
