Dracula’s undead life on stage extended once again

Los Angeles audiences must love the undead – the NoHo Arts centered has extended their run of DRACULA once again, this time until May 17. This is a “graphic and sexually charged” staging of the classic play by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston, which is kind of the missing link between Bram Stoker’s novel and the Bela Lugosi film version that established the eternal image of vampires on screen. The production, which contains nudity and is suggested for mature audiences, makes excellent use of the available space to create a cinematically inspired version of the play taht feels like a good horror movie, but the attempt to modernize the attitude toward the title character – who looks more buff Euro-hunk than vampire – is not so well conceived.
