Creepshow – Nuart at Midnight

The comic-book inspired horror film screens at the Nuart Theatre on Friday, December 4 at midnight. Although this film was not a blockbuster when released, it was a pretty big deal for horror fans at the time, being a collaboration between George Romero, director of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, and Stephen King, author of CARRIE; plus, it featured grizzly makeup effects by Tom Savini, and it had a decent budget that allowed for the casting of lots of stars (Hal Holbrook, Adrienne Barbeau, Leslie Neilsen, E. G. Marshall). It really seemed as if cult horror icon Romero had made it to the big time. Unfortunately, the amusing comic book tone of the film does not serve Romero as well as it might have; he’s better when using horror as a vehicle for social satire. But the film is still a lot of fun – a perfect midnight movie cult item. Click here for the Nuart website.
